Keynote Speakers

Christian Ceconi

Director of Berlin City Mission

What is the Role of Leaders in City Missions?

In todays diverse and fast-changing cities leaders in City Missions have to adapt their organisation to new contexts faster than ever. Driven by the love of Christ the DNA of City Missions is to identify social and spiritual needs, to serve and to empower people. How do we find, train and support leaders to live out this DNA to respond to the challenges of our time and context? How do we engrain a spirit of love and an attitude which sees challenges as opportunities to serve.

Since 2020 Christian Ceconi is director of the Berlin City Mission, as a pastor he has served in various ministries in Hannover, Hildesheim and Toronto. He has studied protestant theology and diaconal science.

Tomáš Tyrlík

Czech Lutheran pastor and bishop of the Silesian Evangelical Church a. v.

In God´s caring hands - Seeking the Peace of the City

In times of change and various challenges in societies, city missions and churches are those who stand with people in need, people in vulnerable situations, but they are also those who bring peace and hope, knowing that our peace and hope are rooted in God's caring hands.

Tomáš Tyrlík has been the bishop of the Silesian Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession (SECAC) since 2017. He is also the chairman of the Ecumenical Council of Churches in the Czech Republic.

Seminar 2: Mental Health and Youth

In seminar, I will focus on the mental health of young people and how we can be there for them. Together, we will seek ways to bring hope and support where it is needed.

In 2015, we started to provide the service of social rehabilitation. Over time, we focused more and more on young people facing mental health challenges. We are engaged in both prevention and exploring new ways to provide support in response to current challenges.

Seminar 3: Challenge of migration

Diakonia Poland invites you to a workshop on the challenges of migration in today's world, with particular attention to the crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border and the situation of refugees from Ukraine. In the spirit of Christian solidarity, we want to reflect on our role, responsibility in the face of these challenges, and possibilities for support.

Seminar 4: Polarisations in our societies

What our European societies have in common is that social groups are becoming increasingly polarised. The gap between rich and poor is widening. Tolerance towards people who come to us from the world´s crisis areas is diminishing. Isolation and exclusion are increasing.

How do we deal with this? Which biblical principles can guide us? Finding good ways to do this is certainly an important contribution to peace in our cities.

Delphine Hobe

Development strategist

Swedish City Mission

Seminar 5: Digital challenges

Digitalization presents both opportunities and challenges for NGOs striving to enhance their impact. Limited funding, digital literacy gaps, lack of clear processes, and data security concerns often hinder the adoption of new technologies. In this seminar, we will explore how Swedish City Missions are working with digitalization, the challenges they face, and the lessons learned along the way.

About EAUM

The European Association of Urban Missions is a Christian non-profit organisation consisting of European City Missions and similar urban missions which have chosen to become members.

The EAUM has been operating for over thirty years. It provides a network for similar organisations from across Europe so that their employees can share experience and good practice and see what God is doing in other countries.

Over the decades staff exchange visits have proven to stimulate, envision and enthuse workers and even create new projects. Every three years a conference is held so that we can meet face to face, share and explore some of the fresh challenges that we all face.
